Education Contests in Canada

Sentence Master will be offering prizes for the 2008 English Education Contests.

Canadian Education Contests Categories will be:
Native English Speakers
Elementary Grades 4 to 8, High School Grades 9 to 12 and open
International ESL Students
Elementary Grades 4 to 8, High School Grades 9 to 12 and open

Contests will begin with the selection of school champions
Phase 1 School District Champions
Phase 2 Provincial Champions
Phase 3 National champions
Phase 4 International Champions

Sentence Master English Writing Games

English Writing is now more important than ever before. The Internet has enabled millions of people to communicate in writing via email, BBS forums and text messaging. Having the ability to communicate correctly and efficiently is now more important than ever. The old formula of 90% oral and 10% writing has morphed to about 60% oral and 40% writing for most professions. To succeed in the professional digital age an extensive vocabulary, proper English grammar and engaging style is mandatory.

Each year, students 18 years of age and under are invited to take part in the Canada Day Poster Challenge by designing a poster that illustrates their pride in Canada and in being Canadian. The 13 provincial and territorial finalists will win a trip to Ottawa to celebrate Canada Day on Parliament Hill. In addition, the winning entry will become the official poster of Celebrate Canada! activities across the country.

The Canadian Computing Competition provides students with an opportunity to test their ability in designing, understanding and implementing algorithms. The Canadian Open Mathematics Challenge is geared towards strong math students.

The Math League has Math Contests for Grades 4 through 8, High School Students, and Algebra 1 students. Over 1 million students from the United States and Canada participate in Math League Contests each year.

This is a 90-minute mathematics contest which takes place every spring. The exam is primarily for Grade 9 students. However, all junior high students attending schools in Calgary and surrounding districts are eligible. The exam is written by participants in their own school.

Eligibility and Conditions: Open to all Canadian senior highs, questions are based on major events in Canadian history from 1850 to the present, with emphasis on critical thinking skills using primary sources.

The Nova Scotia Recycles Contest is open to students in grades primary to twelve and entries can be submitted in either English or French. Winning students in grades primary to eleven receive great prize packages and their schools are presented with $500 cash. As well, scholarships are awarded to grade 12 students in each region!

All CBC Literary Awards Contest entries must be original and unpublished works. Entries must be written in English or French. All entries must fall within one of the following categories and be within the specified word count: Short story (2000 - 2500 words), Creative nonfiction (2000 - 2500 words), or Poetry (1000 - 2000 words). Previously published and unpublished authors may submit texts providing that the submissions are unpublished works. There must be only one author per entry.
