Education Coaches and Mentors

Coaching and mentoring are old professions. Soldiers, artists and athletes have traditionally used teachers to learn skills, coaches to apply those skills and mentors to keep life progressing in balance with history and experience and "holistic" perspectives.

Modern teachers, coaches and mentors synthesize the best skills and practices for use in business, leadership training, academics, life styles, exercise, health and nutrition and finance to benefit students, individuals, executives, entrepreneurs and professionals.

Team work between the student and teacher, coach or mentor usually starts with a skills and ability review, progresses into a plan and results in a goal achieved.

Modern teachers, coaches and mentors can help their students improve their skills, save time, avoid mistakes, live more satisfying lives and achieve goals.

ESL in Canada will be expanding the list of skill sets for tutors, teachers, coaches and mentors. Professional, experienced, qualified education coaches and mentors are able to advise students about Canada, studying in Canada, careers in Canada or life in Canada. We will be featuring these professional coaches and mentors in the new networking lists.

Calgary

My name is Julie. I am an ESL tutor who has lived in Calgary for twelve years, so I feel confident that I can share its' joys with others. Due to a background in communications, I have strong interpersonal skills and a trained eye for what is happening around the city. On a personal note, my grandmother's own linguistic and cultural struggles as a Canadian immigrant motivate me to help those who face challenges in a culture entirely foreign to them. Currently, I am tutoring English and teaching fitness. I have a Bachelor's Degree in English with Distinction and am currently enrolled in a CTESL-approved TESOL course. I have multi-cultural experience through overseas work with a musical show and my own personal travels to Asia. Learning about other cultures and helping people meet their personal goals are what I enjoy.

Ottawa

Hi, my name is Donika, I am currently reading for a Masters Degree in Education in Second Language Teaching (English) at the University of Ottawa. I have previously worked at the Citizenship and Immigration Canada located in Ottawa. I am interested in becoming a mentor for new students to Canada in the Ottawa area. I know the Ottawa area very well. I went to elementary, high school and University in Ottawa.

Toronto

My name is Gordon. I am an executive at a technology consulting company with prior teaching experience at Seneca college and Ryerson. I graduated from the University of Waterloo. With my strong communication and interpersonal skills, I can be a desirable role model to foreign students, in addition to helping them learn English.

Victoria

Hello, my name is Kelley. I am an enthusiastic and experienced tutor. I have a B.A. in Writing, TESOL certification, 6 months recent teaching experience in Korea and several years tutoring experience in Canada. Currently I tutor in ESL conversation, pronunciation, grammar, reading, writing and TOEFL preparation, as well as English writing and editing. I was born and raised in Victoria, B.C. and would be excellently suited to provide orientation assistance here. I know the bus routes, the main attractions, and all the best nature spots around. I am familiar with the rest of the island as well, and am eager to help visiting language students share in the customs and natural beauty of our country.
